Meet schedule & info:

2:20 PM Mixed Middle School Junior Varsity Races – 2 Miles
3:00 PM MS Awards

1. WEATHER
Please note that we will run rain or shine. I have received multitudes of messages about this so I wanted to address it with everyone. We will follow standard weather protocols:

As a general rule we will run in the rain – even driving rain. If there is lightning in the area the meet will be delayed for 30 minutes for weather to clear. If at this time there is still lightning in the area – the meet will be delayed an additional 30 minutes.

On this note, if the weather is especially poor, awards may be moved into the large green pavilion.

2.  Parking
With over 2,000 athletes attending the meet parking will be at a premium.  There will be additional paid parking at the First Apostolic Church of Knoxville, just a short walk to the park.  Please see for details on the location of the church.   Be informed that if you park in someone's driveway or yard in the neighborhoods surrounding Victor Ashe Park you will be towed.  With the meet schedule being stretched over close to 4 hours there should be a constant inflow and outflow from the park.  Expect delays.

4. Course Preview
As mentioned on the meet web page there will be an opportunity to jog the course on Friday from 4-7 PM and on Saturday 9-10 AM and NEW THIS YEAR - 11:30AM (or as soon as the last elementary competitor has crossed) until 12:30PM.  Coaches / Athletes if those jogging the course feel the need to touch, alter or destroy course flags, tape, barriers or cones - your athletes will be selected to help return the course to competition status and to help tear down the course after the meet.  There is NO NEED to do this during your course jog !!!    Once the course is closed (10 AM - Saturday and 12:30PM) - THERE WILL BE NO WARM UPS ON THE COURSE.  Those that choose to do so will risk disqualification from the meet.   There is plenty of room on paved paths around Victor Ashe Park to warm up on.  Respect your fellow competitors and stay off the course.  For those unable to preview the course please refer to the videos below which will give you a good overview of the courses.

All of our ISC races will be at Woodland Park Baptist Church, 6735 Shallowford Rd, Chattanooga.  Please come in via Bonnie Oaks and Hickory Valley entrance, as Standifer Gap Rd is still closed.
Church property rules: 1) Parking is in the gravel parking lot, not the asphalt road 2) No one has permission to enter the church buildings 3) NO PETS(please leave your dogs at home)  4) Respect the grounds - pick up after yourself, your team, and anyone else that left trash 5) Do not cross the finish chute ropes, cross in the appropriate areas only (tell your athletes, tell your parents)
The church is gracious enough to let us hold our events on this wonderful property, we do not want to lose this privilege.

This is the page for Normal Park's Middle School Cross Country team.  We strive to provide 6-8th grade boys and girls the opportunity to develop their athletic ability and teamwork through the process of practicing and competing in the ISC (Independent School Conference) division.  Middle School runners run a 2 mile course, and must have a current physical submitted through Privit.

Join us Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 3:20-4:20 as we build the team and work on speed and endurance.  Tryouts will be at the upper school field on Moday, Aug. 13th 3:20-4:00.  To be able to participate in practices and races, each runner must be able to run a minimum of 10 minutes consecutively at their own pace.  IT WILL BE HOT!  Be prepared with a water bottle, sunglasses, and hat if needed.  Return registration form below before Thurs. 8/09.

Don't let Tryouts or our first practice be your first practice!  Run on your own now to prepare your body for the workouts we'll be doing in August-  shoot for 20 solid minutes of running for 5 days/week!

Join the Facebook group, Remind, and check the website often.  I'll update with needed info, reminders, and race results often, the easiest way to see these is via the site, FB group (NPMM Middle School Cross Country) and Remind texts (I'll be giving this code out on registration day and will post).

Support the team!!  This is huge.  It's not always easy to get kids to meets- they are across town and start right after school, so if you can carpool or help provide a ride please do!  I also ask that we get there in time to cheer on & inspire our elementary team as they run just before we do.
All athletes are asked to provide a $50 lightning athletic fee (payable via NP site) and I'll also be scheduling days we can volunteer to work the concession stand- a portion of the sales goes back to our team.
Additionally- any parent that wants to join us on a run is welcome!  It's always helpful to have additional adults since we are venturing throughout the neighborhood on practice runs.

Our Coaches- Mr. Moore (Exc. ed/gifted), Ms. Blake (8th grade ELA), and Mr. Hannigan (6th grade Math) work together to manage the team, hold practices, and attend meets.  We share the common goal of helping students learn to love exercise, build kinesthetic awareness, and become physically and mentally healthy individuals.
Many other sports and activities can overlap with cross country.  We ask that runners attend at least 2 practices per week until meets start, then at least one after meets start (unless special arrangements are made).  Some optional Saturday runs will also be scheduled.
Additionally, we encourage runners to maintain a 3.0 grade average and stellar discipline record.
