3rd-5th Grade Cross Country 2019
WHO CAN RUN: Any Normal Park student in grades 3-5 can be a part of our Cross Country team. Runners will be expected to maintain excellent school attendance, grades, and behavior in order to participate. Permission slips must be turned in to Mrs. Cox by Wednesday, August 14th. Lower School students can return permission slips to Ms. Bevis in the office.
FEES: All Normal Park sports fees are the same: $50 per sport. Please pay Mrs. Cox with cash or a check made out to Lightning Athletic Club by Wednesday, August 14th. If the required fee would prohibit your child from participating, please speak with Mrs. Cox privately or via email.
PHYSICALS: All runners must have a physical on file using the Privit system in order to participate in practices and/or meets. Physicals must be signed by a physician and dated after 4/15/2019 in order to be valid. Physical forms and directions for using Privit are on the NPMM website.
PRACTICES: In general we will practice on Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 at the Upper School. 4th and 5th graders will report to the Mrs. Cox in the Library at 3:00 to get ready for practice. Parents will need to provide transportation for 3rd graders after school to the Upper School campus. Carpooling is a great option! All students will need to be picked up in the Upper School car rider loop at 4:30. We will have some additional practices and optional runs announced through the Remind system. We need and would love to have parents stay and help during practices.
Runners must attend practices in order to run in meets. If a runner does not attend at least one practice during a given week, they will not be able to run in the next week’s meet. Please contact Mrs. Cox if illness or other circumstances prevent your student from attending practices.
MEETS: Meets will take place on Mondays at Woodland Park Baptist Church. Runners will need to arrive by 4:00. Parents are required to provide transportation to and from meets, and carpooling is encouraged. We will also need volunteers to help set up the course on some Sundays, dates for which will be announced later. The schedule for meets is as follows:

WHAT TO WEAR: Runners should wear athletic shorts and t-shirts or tank tops to practices, along with socks and running shoes. Hats are permitted as well. Jerseys will be ordered as soon as possible and provided to runners for meets, to be worn with black athletic shorts, socks, and running shoes.
- Don’t let our first team practice be your first practice. Start running now so that you are ready for a one mile run in the heat of August and September afternoons.
- Water, water, water! Drink lots of water. All the time. Bring your water bottles to school, practices, and meets. Did I mention that you should be drinking water???
- This is a team sport, not an individual sport. We can only win as a team. Support and encourage each other all season long!
- Have fun and enjoy this season. Set personal goals and beat them. Make good memories and even better friends!
