Normal Park Education Fund

The Normal Park Education Fund is at the heart of our academic life. Without it, many of the programs that differentiate Normal Park would not exist.

What does the Ed Fund pay for?

Teacher Salaries
The Ed Fund allows Normal Park to have teachers on staff that our HCDE budget wouldn't cover, including Dance, Science and Technology.

Science
Our science labs for grades K-5 are staffed and supplied by donations to the Education Fund.

Dance
Our students gain strength and flexibility—and let loose the wiggles—with creative movement classes.

Technology
Activeboards, new computers, support and teaching staff—necessary technological innovation and maintenance!

Teacher Training and Curriculum Development
Our teachers don't work from textbooks - instead, they develop their own curricula that connect content to our Museum Magnet model. The fund supports travel and time for planning.

Literacy Initiatives
Twice a year we have a literacy specialist consult with students and families.

School Materials
Library books, science kits, world maps...many items that are essential to fostering a hands-on learning atmosphere.

Exhibit-Building Materials
What would Normal Park be without its Exhibit Nights? The Ed Fund pays for all the materials we use to build our exhibits. Every child has access to quality materials as they build projects that deepen and fortify all they learn.

How does the Ed Fund raise money?

The Ed Fund is funded through two main sources - grants and private donations. We are lucky to have many great and loyal friends in the foundation community, including the following in 2008-2009:

  • The Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga's Fund for Chattanooga
  • The Benwood Foundation
  • Chattem/Hamico
  • The Warren Foundation
  • The Osborne Foundation

In addition, we have generous private donors whose ranks include parents, teachers, grandparents, alumni, neighbors and other community members. Even students have contributed to our fund!
