Application K-8 | Admissions
Normal Park serves students in grades K-8 who live in the school zone or apply to attend through the magnet school office.
- Zone Students
Students living in the Normal Park zone are automatically accepted with two proofs of residency. If you live in the school zone and have a child entering Kindergarten through 8th grade, stop by Normal Park Museum Magnet Lower School or Upper School to fill out a registration form.
A current lease or a document proving home ownership in the parent's or guardian's name is required as one proof of residency. The second piece may be a gas, water, electric, phone or cable bill in the parent/guardian name. To find out if you live in the zone, visit http://www.hcde.org/schoolzones/zonefinder.aspx.
- Magnet Students
The application period for the 2010-2011 School Year is November 1, 2009 – January 31, 2010
To apply as a magnet student, fill out an application online at http://www.hcde.org/magnet (available on November 1). Paper applications are also available in the Normal Park school office at either campus or at the Hamilton County Department of Education. Applications must be returned by certified mail or hand-delivered to HCDE Central Office at 3074 Hickory Valley Road. Do not mail the application to Normal Park or drop if off at the school.
If there are more applications than available seats, a computerized random selection process, or lottery, will be used to assign students. Siblings and downtown worksites get priority in the lottery. To find out if your workplace is one of the specified sites, check page 2 of the magnet school application and follow the directions for having it notarized.
The lottery is run in late February, and the HCDE Magnet Office will notify parents of whether or not a placement at Normal Park is offered. Placement is not confirmed until the parents/guardians attend a conference at Normal Park and return the signed acceptance form.
Once a student is accepted in Normal Park, the family must meet several Parent/Guardian Commitments to maintain the child's spot in the school.
